okay but - why mushrooms?
ahhhh we love mushrooms, can you tell? our mushroom extracts are little powerhouses that have been used for thousands of years, it is no wonder that this side of the world is finally catching up on to the wonders of these babies relatively recently. mushrooms are an a-ma-zing way to supercharge what you're eating daily, they're versatile, easy to take on the go, + each come with their own unique health benefits that are nothing to scoff at (take a peek at each mushroom on our site). you only have to begin incorporating mushrooms consistently in your day to day to truly understand the life changing properties they hold.
what does the term 'fruiting body' really mean?
mushroom = fruiting body. fruiting body = mushroom.
they are one and the same! the fruiting body is the part of the mushroom that is visible to us above ground.
full spectrum vs fruiting body
when we think of a mushroom, we often picture the stem + cap - this is also known as the "fruiting body" - the visible part.
full spectrum indicates the fruiting body is used, as well as the mycelium (think root system) + potentially the spores also. while the mycelium is wonderful for the plant life + is necessary for the health of the plant kingdom- humans get the most benefit from the fruiting body, which is why at The Gut Lab our mushrooms are fruiting body only.
are mushrooms adaptogens?
mushrooms are not all necessarily adaptogenic (read more about adaptogens here)! however some of the main powerhouses that we’re sure you’re familiar with, like chaga, reishi, lion's mane, cordyceps, + shiitake (to name a few!), are.
what do mushrooms taste like?
they each have a different flavour profile, some earthy and velvety, some reminiscent of cacao, some a little bitter, others very much like the culinary mushrooms you're accustomed to. like most edibles from our Mother Nature, they are unique + flavourful. some say that mushrooms pair well with coffee + chocolate, we personally find they hide well in just about anything, + make the most incredible elixirs.
are mushrooms safe for children?
like anything you put in or on your body, or that of your child’s, we recommend speaking with a health care professional should you have any pre-exisiting conditions or are on any medications, as we are all beautifully different. however generally speaking, mushrooms are safe for children + can absolutely be beneficial.
are mushrooms safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
like anything you put in or on your body, we recommend looking in to it to see if it is a fit for your individual needs. generally speaking, mushrooms are safe for pregnancy + breastfeeding + can absolutely be beneficial- but don't take our word for it, we invite you to read about the wonders of mushrooms for yourself! there are even some mushrooms (like reishi) that have been shown to be super supportive during these times.
how often should we consume?
every day! consistency is key- a little bit every day is far better than a large amount every once in a while.
can you travel with mushrooms?
you betcha. please check the restrictions for the countries you're traveling to of course, however we bring our mushies with us everywhere to upgrade the food/ + drinks we're consuming, + to support our health while away from home.
